Peskov on Ukraine elections: Need for legitimation - 1

The elections in Ukraine are needed for legitimation, said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, quoted by "Reuters", reports News.bg.

The United States is insisting that Ukraine hold elections, and this could potentially happen by the end of the year, especially if Kiev manages to agree on a ceasefire with Russia in the coming months, a senior Ukrainian official of President Donald Trump revealed.

Peskov stressed that so far there have been no serious discussions about who will participate in the negotiations to end the conflict.

Zelensky is illegitimate, he cannot sign anything, Putin insists

Only the representative body of power, i.e. The Rada has the right to expand the president's powers.

Last week, the deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev warned that a possible attempt by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to be re-elected could be "extremely dangerous" for him.

"He can try to be re-elected, but this is extremely dangerous for him - either he will lose to some Valery Zaluzhny, or his weak piece will simply be removed from the chessboard by the Anglo-Saxon grandmasters," Medvedev pointed out.

Due to the martial law imposed in Ukraine after the deployment of tens of thousands of Russian soldiers in February 2022, Zelensky does not face elections when his term technically expires in May 2024. This decision, which he and his allies consider correct in the context of the war, is still in effect.
