Four people have died in severe storms and floods in the US, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.

A mother and her seven-year-old child were swept away in their car by rising waters in the state of Kentucky, a local government official said. In the southeastern part of the same state, a 73-year-old man was found dead in flooded Clay County.

Strong storms also raged in parts of Florida and Georgia, where tornado warnings are in effect today, the National Weather Service reported.

In Atlanta, one person died early this morning after an “extraordinarily large tree“ fell on his home, Scott Powell of the Atlanta Fire Department reported.

Meanwhile, temperatures are expected to drop to extremely low levels in the Northern Plains. Extremely cold temperatures are expected in North and South Dakota and in Minnesota, where thermometers will show from minus 46.5 degrees to minus 40 degrees.

Heavy snowfalls are expected to fall in the geographical area of New England and in upstate New York. In some areas, the snowfall will be accompanied by strong winds reaching gusts of about 97 km / h, the AP noted.
