British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is ready to send British troops to Ukraine if necessary to guarantee peace there, world agencies reported, quoted by BTA.
In an article in the "Daily Telegraph" newspaper, he stressed that he would send the troops if necessary to guarantee the security of Britain and Europe.
"Great Britain plays a primary role in supporting Kiev against Russian aggression, which also means that we are ready and available to contribute to the guarantees of Ukraine's security by sending our troops to the field if necessary“, Starmer said.
„I do not say this lightly. "I feel very deeply the responsibility that comes with potentially putting British servicemen in danger," Starmer said.
„But any role in ensuring the security of Ukraine is helping to ensure the security of our continent and this country.
„The end of this war, when it comes, cannot be just a temporary pause before Putin attacks again,“ he warned.
Today, Starmer will join the leaders of several European countries in Paris at a time when Europe is trying to think of a strategy in response to US President Donald Trump's insistence on a deal with Russia and when there are fears that the US could reduce its defence commitments on the continent, notes Agence France-Presse.
Starmer said that the crisis now is one of those that happens once in a generation and that it poses an existential question for Europe.
The British prime minister has committed himself and, that his country will start spending 3 billion British pounds a year on defense by 2030.
Starmer also announced that he would meet with the US president in the coming days. He added that Britain has a unique role to play in ensuring that Europe and the US work closely together.
"American support will remain paramount and American security assurance is essential for a lasting peace, because only the US can dissuade Putin from attacking again,“ Starmer stressed.
Former British Prime Minister John Major has strongly criticized US President Donald Trump's decision to contact Russia for peace talks over Ukraine, calling the situation "totally unprecedented", BNR reported.
Speaking to the BBC, John Major said: "Think about what will happen if Russia manages to claim victory. China will notice, and so will the world, and so will every dictator in the world."
The former prime minister then issued the following warning regarding Donald Trump's new approach to Russia and Europe:
"If America behaves in this way and retreats into isolation, it leaves the door open for China and Russia to take its place on the world stage," Major said.
He is convinced that Beijing will be emboldened in its stance on Taiwan as a result of the White House's stance on Ukraine. According to him, if America is not willing to stand behind its allies in the way the world is used to seeing before, then everyone is moving into a "completely different and much more dangerous world".
