The US administration will discuss with Chinese authorities the situation surrounding the social network TikTok in the country. US President Donald Trump announced this on Wednesday in a conversation with journalists on board his plane returning to Washington from Florida.

“A lot of people are interested in TikTok and we have a chance to do something good, we will also talk to China“, the head of state noted.

“It would be great to keep TikTok and sell it to someone who will do a great job“, he added.

Earlier, Trump said that the delay in blocking TikTok in the United States could be extended.

In early February, the president signed an order that required the US Treasury and Commerce departments to submit a plan to create a sovereign wealth fund to the president of the country within 90 days. Trump acknowledged that this state fund could be used as part of a deal to acquire TikTok shares.

On January 20, after taking office, Trump signed an executive order that has postponed the blocking of this platform in the United States for at least 75 days. He said that the US should have the right to half of TikTok, but did not explain exactly what he meant.

Trump had previously said that he had "warm feelings" to the platform because the votes of its young American users helped him achieve success in the presidential elections in November 2024.

Earlier, the press secretary of the Chinese Embassy in Washington, Liu Penggu, compared the situation surrounding the possible ban of TikTok in the US to robbery.

The 46th US President Joe Biden signed a law in 2024 that forced the Chinese corporation ByteDance to sell or terminate TikTok's operations in the US by January 19, 2025.

According to CNBC, the US administration is looking for potential candidates to buy 50% of TikTok's shares.
