One person was killed and two police officers were injured today in a knife attack in the city of Mulhouse in eastern France, BTA reported.
The alleged perpetrator is a 37-year-old man who appears in the registers of law enforcement agencies as a potential terrorist, AFP reported, citing the prosecutor's office.
One police officer was wounded in the carotid artery and the other in the torso.
French President Emmanuel Macron said today that the knife attack in the city of Mulhouse, in which one person was killed and at least two police officers were injured, was an Islamist terrorist act, AFP reported.
A man attacked today with a knife and shouted shouts "Allahu Akbar" at police in the eastern French city and killed a bystander who tried to intervene. The attacker has been arrested. He is 37 years old and known to authorities as a potential terrorist, prosecutors said.
"This is without a doubt an act of Islamist terrorism," Macron told reporters on the sidelines of an agricultural exhibition. He added that the interior minister was traveling to Mulhouse.
