Kiev condemned the "violation of territorial sovereignty" by International Atomic Energy Agency officials who visited the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine through the territory occupied by Moscow, reports "Reuters".
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry accused "Russian blackmail and systematic attempts to impose illegal and contradictory mechanisms of action on international organizations in the temporarily occupied territories".
A new IAEA observation mission arrived yesterday at the nuclear power plant, which has been occupied by Russia since 2022. The Moscow-appointed director of the nuclear plant specified that this was the first time this had happened through Russian territory.
Previously, monitoring missions had entered the Russian-occupied territory from lands under Kiev's control.
The IAEA rotation came after weeks of delays caused by military activity around the site, with each side accusing the other of violating rules ensuring the team's safe passage to the plant.
