Democrats in the US House of Representatives have introduced a bill to tighten anti-Russian sanctions and increase support for Ukraine, Reuters reported, citing their sources.
According to them, the document contains provisions for allocating funds in the field of ensuring the “security and reconstruction“ of Ukraine, as well as “the introduction of strict sanctions against Russia“.
The agency notes that the bill of the Democrats, who are currently in the minority in both houses of Congress, is an element of pressure on the administration of Republican President Donald Trump by his political opponents, who are counting on continued military support for Kiev from the United States. If the document in its current form is not adopted, some of its provisions could be included in a bipartisan bill on Ukraine that could be passed in the US Congress.
In early April, a group of senators from both parties in Congress introduced a bill that would impose primary and secondary sanctions on Russia and its trading partners if it rejects Washington's proposed ideas for resolving the conflict in Ukraine. The proposal includes import duties of 500% on goods from countries that buy Russian oil, gas, uranium and other goods. The bill was introduced by Senators Lindsey Graham and Richard Blumenthal.
