The Kremlin said today's meeting between the United States, Ukraine and European countries in Paris is an opportunity for US envoy Steve Witkoff to brief Europeans on the current status of peace talks in Ukraine, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russian President Vladimir Putin and Witkoff had a long conversation last week.
"The United States continues to work in this direction with the Europeans and Ukrainians. Unfortunately, however, we see from the Europeans that they are focused solely on continuing the war," Peskov said.
Senior Ukrainian officials arrived in Paris today, where the Europeans are organizing a meeting to defend Kiev's position before US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Steve Witkoff.
The high-level diplomacy reflects Europe's growing concern about the US administration's outreach to Moscow amid Trump's failure to broker a ceasefire in Ukraine.
Putin held his latest meeting with Witkoff in St. Petersburg on Friday. Russian state media reported that the talks lasted more than four hours.
Trump has repeatedly said he wants to end the war, but has yet to make a breakthrough.
Moscow says it is not easy to reach an agreement.
