The Council of the European Union has decided to allocate 15 million euros of assistance under the European Peace Facility, with the aim of strengthening the defense capacities and capabilities of the army of the Republic of North Macedonia, as well as improving its operational readiness, MIA reports, BTA reports.
“Today we agreed to provide North Macedonia with additional EU support of €15 million for its army“, said EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaia Kalas.
She specified that the funds would be used to purchase equipment designed for intelligence gathering and surveillance, as well as for military training needs.
“Our support will help North Macedonia contribute to regional stability and security, which is essential not only for the Western Balkans, but also for the European Union“, added Kalas.
With the funds announced today, as well as the bilateral support packages in 2023 and 2024, the total EU assistance to the countries under the European Peace Facility reaches a total of €38 million.
