Tesla, which has revolutionized the world of electric cars despite its relatively high-quality products, is facing an unusual challenge related to the actions and statements of its CEO Elon Musk. Musk's political activity has long been a subject of controversy, with his prominent role in supporting Donald Trump on his way back to the US presidency causing a serious reaction among some Tesla owners.
According to a survey conducted by the Dutch publication EenVandaag , one in three Tesla owners in the Netherlands is considering selling their Tesla electric car or has already done so. The owners indicate that if they had known what Musk's actions would be now, they would not have bought a car from this brand. Some even plan to publicly express their discontent by painting slogans against the CEO on their cars.
At the same time, half of the respondents say that Musk's personality and actions do not affect their assessment of Tesla. However, a significant part of the audience admits that the CEO's behavior has made them reconsider their attitude towards the brand and electric vehicles in general. Such an effect could affect both sales of new Tesla models and the market value of used Tesla cars not only in the Netherlands, but also in other regions of the world.
The situation goes beyond Europe: Musk also causes mixed feelings in the United States. In particular, after his so-called "strange" gesture during the president's inauguration, many posts have appeared on social networks such as Reddit calling for a boycott of the brand.
Despite this crisis of confidence among some customers, Tesla continues to hold a leading position in the electric car market thanks to its technological achievements and innovation. However, the long-term impact of Musk's actions on the company's reputation remains an open question.
