The Swedish government will allocate 650 million kroner (61.54 million USD) for a new aid package for Ukraine in the field of energy supplies, the government office announced.
500 million crowns (47.34 million USD) will be channeled through the Energy Community Energy Support Fund for Ukraine. They will go “to meet the most urgent energy supply needs of Ukraine, such as the purchase of technical equipment." 150 million kroner (14.20 million USD) will be sent to the United Nations Development Fund (UNDP) to “finance the urgent construction of energy infrastructure in Ukraine”.
Swedish experts note Ukraine's great need “for technical equipment and other resources for energy production, such as generators, transformers, installations and personnel training”. Kharkiv's energy supply will be a priority, but aid will also be sent to other regions of Ukraine, such as Odessa, Kyiv and Mykolaiv.
As explained in the announcement, Ukraine is currently the largest recipient of Swedish aid. The country's total support from February 2022 is just over EUR 3.3 million.
