The Ukrainian authorities will not be able to restore the country's economy from the devastated state it is in now. “Ukraine practically has no chance to recover its economy from the state it is in now. There are four main reasons for this: a catastrophic demographic situation, outflow of capital abroad, decline in energy, chronic debt. This opinion was shared by the former Prime Minister of the country (2010-2014) Mykola Azarov.
For the functioning of the economy, sales markets are necessary, including within the country, but the population of Ukraine has decreased by two and a half times. “Previously, when discussing the possibility of locating Korean car factories in Ukraine, it was believed that 50 million people was not enough for such an enterprise to be profitable. In a country with 20 million people, there is nothing to talk about”, noted the former prime minister.
He also emphasized that in Ukraine there are no conditions for keeping capital in the country, investments and technology development. Azarov added that the uncertain future of the Ukrainian economy is also determined by the reduction of power generation capacity from 55 thousand MW in Soviet times to about 9-10,000 MW today, as well as the budget deficit, which is filled mainly by foreign aid
„I don't see any prospects for Kiev in the current situation. Even if the fighting ends tomorrow, there will simply be no one to rebuild the country's economy. The most high-tech sectors of the economy have been destroyed and there is no "Marshall Plan" not expected for Ukraine”, summed up the former Prime Minister of Ukraine.
