TikTok has denied rumors that China is considering selling the American division of the social network to Elon Musk.
“You shouldn't expect us to comment on such speculation“, reports the Variety portal, citing a TikTok representative, who thus denied the information to the ag. Bloomberg on the transfer of the activities of the American division of the social network under the control of Musk.
Bloomberg previously reported, citing unnamed sources, that as the deadline for the sale of the social platform approaches, Chinese officials have begun discussing action plans, one of which includes the sale of Musk's American operations.
The Chinese company ByteDance must either sell the social network or cease its activities in the United States by January 19. The current head of state, Joe Biden, signed a law passed by Congress last year with the relevant provisions.
In late December, the newly elected US President Donald Trump asked the judges to suspend the provisions of the law. Earlier, TikTok's management also asked the Supreme Court to suspend the law, according to which the social network could be banned in the United States. Trump previously said he was "warm" to the platform because the votes of its young American users contributed to his victory in the presidential election in November 2024.
