GERB leader Boyko Borisov met with visiting Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and thanked him for his support for Bulgaria and Romania's full membership in Schengen from January 2025.
"I would like to thank Viktor and the Hungarian Schengen presidency for what they did, and of course Ursula von der Leyen," Borisov said, quoted by the Bulgarian National Radio.
Hungary has agreed with the US on a three-month suspension of US sanctions against "Gazprombank" so that supplies of Russian natural gas to Budapest are not affected. This became clear from Orban's words after his meeting with the GERB leader.
"Out of nearly 9 billion cubic meters of gas, 7 billion pass through Bulgaria. Your country plays a key role in Hungary's energy security. We managed to agree with the Americans that the sanctions against "Gazprombank" would be suspended for three months so that our supplies would not be threatened. In addition, we have secured an alternative financing path," said the Hungarian Prime Minister.
