Our country is absolutely unprepared for response after strong earthquakes. This was stated to the Bulgarian National Radio by Eng. Dimitar Kumanov.
"Bulgaria is a region with high seismicity. We learned nothing from the earthquake in Pernik in 2012. A comprehensive national strategy must be prepared. It must be the work of the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works and the Commission for Disasters and Accidents. It is necessary to create a Regulation for the assessment of buildings damaged after strong earthquakes.
Lists of volunteers should be made in each area who are trained and equipped for assessment after such a disaster".
The strongest of the series of earthquakes so far has shaken the Cyclades Islands.
"The frightening thing is that the seismic series is with increasing intensity of the tremors.
It is clearly volcanic activity. It is right that all the people living there have been warned that they must evacuate".
