The bill to amend and supplement the Law on Tobacco, Tobacco and Related Products, submitted by Kostadin Angelov – GERB-SDF parliamentary group on February 7, 2025, was unanimously adopted by the parliamentary economic committee, BTA reports.

The proposed bill will create an opportunity to protect the lives and health of Bulgarian citizens from the harmful effects of electronic cigarettes, which have gained popularity as "vapes" with unclear content, as well as energy drinks consumed by children. The bill was presented by Kostadin Angelov.

The draft regulatory act proposes a complete ban on the offer, sale, distribution and advertising of electronic cigarettes for single and multiple use, whether or not containing nicotine - the so-called. vapes and similar devices, is stated in the explanatory memorandum to the draft law.

The proposed amendments to the Child Protection Act introduce a ban on the use, offering and sale to children of all products containing nicotine, including pouches, snus, chewing gum and others, as well as energy drinks.

Since the beginning of this year, there have been a series of incidents in the country with children injured after smoking vapes with substances or after excessive use of energy drinks, and a 14-year-old boy from Pleven, who smoked a vape with hexahydrocannabiol, died after falling from the seventh floor. Angelov reminded that there was also a case of death of a child after using an energy drink.

He called on the deputies to support the bill, which in his words will give a clear sign that the Bulgarian state has the will to deal with this problem.
