The MFA issued a statement regarding the latest statement by the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia, Hristijan Mickoski.
In it, he claims that "Bulgaria must unequivocally recognize the centuries-old Macedonian identity". We are publishing the position of the MFA without editorial intervention:
"In connection with successive public appearances by the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia, the MFA once again reminds that the European Consensus of July 2022, approved by both all EU member states and Skopje, remains the valid roadmap for the neighboring country's progress in its accession process. It is puzzling that the commitments undertaken by the Republic of North Macedonia are perceived by its Prime Minister as “interference in its internal affairs“. We consider such suggestions as yet another attempt to circumvent the commitments undertaken and divert public attention from the lack of reforms.
Once again, the Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia demonstrates a lack of understanding of the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights. In this way, willingly or unwillingly, he is promoting manipulative and false theses, which could also be seen as real interference in the internal affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria“.
