Former Minister of Defense Krasimir Karakachanov sharply criticized the current leadership of the department in a post on social networks. According to him, during the reign of Minister Dimitar Tagarev, significant amounts were allocated to "influencers" for pushing pro-Ukrainian propaganda.
"The Ministry of Defense under Minister Tagarev paid 10 thousand leva per month to an influencer for propaganda in favor of Ukraine. 10 thousand per month under a one-year contract! Calculate for yourself how much money was spent. Separately, there are also amounts, again every month, for the company of this "influencer".", writes Karakachanov.
The Leader of the VMRO indicates that these funds come from the pocket of the Bulgarian taxpayer and are spent on "foreign causes", while according to him "the Ukrainian cause is not Bulgarian". Karakachanov emphasizes that the true Bulgarian cause and mission of the Ministry of Defense should be to fill the shortage in the Bulgarian Army and increase its combat capability, as well as the social security and ideological motivation of Bulgarian servicemen.
In his post, Karakachanov recalls the national information campaign "Be a Soldier", which was launched during his term as Minister of Defense with the aim of popularizing the military profession. According to him, this campaign has achieved good results and has increased interest in the military profession, which is confirmed by the statistics for those wishing to join the army.
"Let us recall the old maxim that "he who does not feed his own army, feeds someone else's" and let us think in this uncertain time about what exactly Tagarev did as Minister and what role the influencer in question played in raising the fighting spirit of our military personnel," Karakachanov also points out.
The former military minister sharply criticized the decision of the leadership of the Ministry of Defense to spend "thousands of leva from the budget, i.e. from the pockets of Bulgarians, for a foreign cause, and not to invest them in the future of the Bulgarian Army, which would also be a guarantee for the security of the state".
Karakachanov concludes his statement with the words: "But what do we expect from those who cry on foreign graves and give Bulgarian money for foreign causes."
