On this day 21 years ago, Bulgaria took a historic step to guarantee its national security by joining NATO. With today's military conflicts and threats, it is now clear – national security is not a given, but an everyday job. This was written by the co-chair of the PG of "Continuing the change - Democratic Bulgaria" and former Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov on Facebook, quoted by "Focus".
In his words, NATO membership gives us not only protection from aggressors, but also the opportunity to be part of a common defense system that stands behind each member state with the principle of "one for all, all for one".
"Bulgaria is a factor in regional security and will increasingly strengthen its role in European defense efforts," he also noted.
According to Denkov, the development of our army, its participation in NATO missions, the modernization of our weapons systems and the development of the Bulgarian defense sector are national priorities – "in order to assert our place among democratic nations that can protect peace, freedom and independence".
