Burgas Airport welcomed the first tourists for the 2025 season

Burgas Airport expects an increase in the number of passengers served by at least 10 percent this year. This was announced to the Bulgarian National Radio by the airport director Vasil Atanasov, who predicts a stronger tourist season this summer.

"We expect an increase in passengers compared to 2024, but also maintaining the profile of the markets", Atanasov shared, BTA reported. According to him, the most tourists are expected from the UK, Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany and Slovakia.

The airport director emphasized that a positive trend is observed in almost all leading markets. "We are noticing growth in almost all top 10 markets, with the exception of Israel, where the geopolitical situation is complicated", explained Vasil Atanasov. He added that a particularly significant increase in flights from Germany by about 70 percent is expected.

Today, the first flight of the season with tourists was welcomed at the Burgas airport. The plane of the airline "Ryanair", operating a regular route from the Polish city of Krakow, passed under the traditional water arch on the runway. The passengers on board, a total of 183 people, were officially welcomed by the airport management.

Some of the guests told the media that they would spend their vacation in the resort villages along the Southern Black Sea coast. Some of the tourists were visiting Bulgaria for the first time, and among the passengers there was a significant number of Ukrainian citizens.

Vasil Atanasov recalled that our country will host the second consecutive edition of the "Erlebe Bulgarien" (Experience Bulgaria) initiative. The significant event for the tourism industry will be held in the Golden Sands resort in June. The forum is expected to bring together nearly 200 leading representatives of the tourism business from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, including tour operators, travel agencies, representatives of industry organizations and others.

The director of Burgas Airport also informed that the charter season will officially start in early May. Regarding the resumption of the domestic air connection Burgas - Sofia, Atanasov commented that it will return in mid-June initially with flights four times a week, and from July it will operate every day.
