I am running for ombudsman, not for prime minister, insisted Velislava Delcheva, nominated by GERB-SDF, to the Bulgarian National Radio.
The changes to the Constitution make the ombudsman part of the so-called "house book", from which an acting prime minister could be chosen.
However, Delcheva pointed out that this aspect was not discussed at all with representatives of the party that nominated her.
"Even if this "house book" remains in some form, the ombudsman's place is not there. When we talk about an ombudsman, we are looking for someone with a certain profile that is different from the one we would look for as a prime minister.
She has worked on various projects in the non-governmental sector.
"Even as part of the Judicial System Development Program, we achieved a lot of success. I have actively worked on access to court. A number of information centers in the courts were established with our help.
I have actively worked to improve access to legal aid for people from vulnerable groups, as well as on juvenile justice.
Over the past two years, I have also worked on ensuring that citizens have a better legal culture.
Children and the elderly are among the main target groups she would deal with if she took the position of ombudsman.
"Last but not least - domestic violence. My main effort will be to expand the network of crisis centers".
Velislava Delcheva announced that she will seek broad political support.
