The regional minister inspects the construction of the Mezdra-Botevgrad road delayed by landslides - 1

The Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Ivan Ivanov will inspect the construction of the expressway between Mezdra and Botevgrad today, BTA reported.

This is the minister's second inspection in less than a month. The construction of the road was delayed due to the discovery of seven new landslides along the route, which were reported in November 2024. During the last inspection, it became clear that traffic from Mezdra is expected to be allowed to resume in June this year with a temporary organization.

The construction of the four-lane expressway began in October 2019, but after the fall of the Boyko Borisov government, work on it was suspended. In June 2023, activities were resumed and car traffic was again redirected to bypass roads. This led to dissatisfaction among residents of some of the settlements through which heavy goods vehicles pass, due to the rapid damage to the road surface, the speed at which the trucks move, and the vibrations that destroy houses near the road.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Mezdra Ivan Asparuhov requested the Road Infrastructure Agency a day ago to provide a 48-hour window during which the most dangerous sections of one of the bypass routes between Mezdra and the village of Moravitsa could be repaired.
