Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadjov ordered BDZ-Passenger Transport to refund the cost of the tickets of standing passengers who had reserved seats for the Sofia - Varna train, which traveled on March 28, 2025 at 10:21 a.m. The Deputy Prime Minister announced this in a post on his Facebook page.
According to the preliminary plan, the train was supposed to run with 4 wagons, but due to technical reasons, one of the intended wagons could not be attached and therefore it departed with 3 wagons. Thus, passengers who had previously purchased tickets with a reserved seat were unable to use them and were forced to travel standing.
“First of all, I would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused to all passengers“, commented Deputy Prime Minister Karadjov and pointed out that such situations are absolutely unacceptable, but unfortunately, they often happen. “By my order, an organization has been created today by “BDZ Passenger Transport“ EOOD to refund the cost of the tickets of those passengers who were unable to use their previously reserved seats“, added Karadjov.
The Deputy Prime Minister ordered that reserve wagons in operational readiness be provided in the future to be used in similar situations. "I have also ordered the complaints procedure to be improved, so that citizens can be compensated much more quickly and easily in the event of similar problems," he added.
