The Institute for Space Research and Technology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (ISRT-BAS) celebrated the International Day of Aviation and Cosmonautics - April 12, by organizing an Open Day and presenting its work.
The Director of ISRT-BAS, Prof. Georgi Zhelev, launched the initiative at the Scientific Complex-1 of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, on "Acad. Georgi Bonchev" Str.
“The idea of today's event is to show and promote the activities of the institute and, of course, to give people, especially the younger ones, the opportunity to experience what we do,“ said Prof. Georgi Zhelev. He reminded that the Institute of Space Research-BAS organizes such events twice a year. This year it will be on November 1.
Visitors had the opportunity to view the permanent exhibition of equipment in the institute's foyer, visit the specialized laboratories and get acquainted with the projects that researchers are working on.
“In the last five years, the activities and projects that have been developed in the field of space research and technology by colleagues at our institute are under programs with the European Space Agency, European programs, the Scientific Research Fund and the Recovery and Resilience Plan,“ said Prof. Dr. Eng. Denitsa Borisova, scientific secretary at the Institute of Space Research-BAS. She presented to the visitors the “Lyulin” dosimeters, the “Artemis” program, to which Bulgaria is a member, research on the Antarctic glaciers on Livingston Island, and also the development of drones. The unmanned aerial vehicles that BAS is developing together with the company Smart Farm Robotix, which have automated systems for independent power supply using solar panels.
Throughout the day, visitors to IKIT-BAS have the opportunity to better familiarize themselves with the projects on which the institute is working through lectures led by specialists in the relevant fields.
