On March 21, customs officers selected for inspection the luggage of a citizen of the Republic of Peru, traveling on the route Sao Paulo - Istanbul - Sofia. During the control actions, it was established that the side frames of the passenger's two suitcases were impregnated with a high-risk narcotic substance - cocaine.

The total gross weight of the side frames in which the narcotic substance was hidden is 7.029 kg. Its value according to the tariffs of the legal proceedings is about 2 million leva.

The check was carried out jointly with officers from the “Border Police“ at the Regional Border Police Airports as part of the joint efforts of the “Customs“ Agency and the Directorate General “Border Police“ to strengthen the control of our external borders.

The narcotic substance has been seized. An investigation has been initiated based on the inventory of the Sofia Customs Department. By order of the supervising prosecutor, the accused was detained for a period of up to 72 hours.

At the request of the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office (SGP), the Sofia City Court (SCC) took a measure of detention in the form of permanent arrest.

The investigation into the case is being carried out by the Sofia Customs Department under the leadership and supervision of the SGP.

The court shared the prosecutor's arguments that there is sufficient evidence that leads to a conclusion of a reasonable assumption of the authorship of the crime for which the accused was brought. The court accepted that there was also a real danger of committing a crime, as well as a real danger of her absconding, therefore it determined that detention in custody was an appropriate measure of detention.

The SCC's decision is not final and can be appealed before the Sofia Court of Appeal.

The investigation continues.
