Referee Livio Marinelli blew the whistle for the end of the Verona - Milan (0-1) match, and tension arose in the center. The goalkeeper of the “Rossoneri” Mike Magnian protested furiously, and the reason was racist chants heard from the goal, probably in the second half.
Shortly after that, the stadium announcer made an appeal over the loudspeaker to avoid manifestations of racism, which was met with boos. At “Bentegodi“, because of the athletics track, the sounds from the stands can hardly reach the pitch. If Magnian complained, he probably heard something, and the protest reminded him of what happened last season in Udine. The French goalkeeper then reported racist abuse to the referee, left the field and the match was stopped for a few minutes.
After the match, Mike explained: “On my first pass, I went to get the ball and I heard them calling me a monkey, but I didn't say anything. They did it again and then I sought justice. I said that you can't play like that. This is not the first time it's happened”.
