Albert Popov finished in 16th place in the slalom in Adelboden, the 16th round of the Alpine Skiing World Cup season. Frenchman Clement Noel achieved his third victory of the year and the 13th of his career, BTA reports.
Popov, who won his first World Cup victory three days ago in the slalom in Madonna di Campiglio, posted a 17th-place time in the first run with 57.09 seconds, 2.16 behind leader Manuel Feller. In the second descent in the thick fog in Adelboden, the Bulgarian finished in 56.75 seconds and temporarily took sixth place.
Popov gradually fell out of the top 10, and Clement Noel won the victory with a flawless second descent. He recorded a ninth time of 56.22 seconds and finished in first place with a total of 1:51.54 minutes. Brazilian Lucas Braaten finished second with only two hundredths of a second behind, while Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen took the last place on the podium with 0.14 seconds behind.
Kristoffersen remained second in the overall World Cup standings and reduced his gap to leader Marco Odermatt, who does not compete in the slalom discipline, to 56 points. Loic Meillard is third with 236 points, while Albert Popov is in 21st place.
In the slalom discipline, the Bulgarian is ninth, while the leader is Kristoffersen with 375 points. He leads by 35 over Noel and by 50 over Meillard, who failed to finish the first run in Switzerland.
