Radoslav Yankov finished fifth in the parallel giant slalom of the Alpine Snowboarding World Cup in the Swiss resort of Scuol. The Bulgarian passed the qualification with the best result, and in the first round of the direct eliminations he overcame Kim Sangkyum without any problems, after the South Korean failed to finish, BTA reports.
In the quarterfinals, Yankov started on the blue course he chose and had a lead almost until the end against his rival Andreas Promeger. However, the Austrian managed to develop great speed in the final gates of the track and managed to overtake his Bulgarian rival by only 0.14 seconds.
For the 34-year-old Yankov, this is the second best result of the season after his victory in Karetsa on December 12.
The winner of the race was the Italian Maurizio Bormolini, who prevailed in the final over the Austrian Dominik Burgstaller, for whom this was his first podium.
Third place went to Promeger, who in the small final easily overcame the Italian Gabriel Messner.
In the giant slalom standings in the World Cup, Bormolini came out on top with 266 points. Radoslav Yankov climbed to second place with 221 points, two more than Slovenian Tim Mastnak, who failed to increase his score today.
The next starts of the World Cup in parallel disciplines in snowboarding are on January 14 and 15 in Bad Gastein (Austria), and on January 17 and 18 there are also starts in the Bulgarian resort of Bansko.
