The Knesset (Parliament) has approved the appointment of Israel Katz as Israel's new defense minister, and Gideon Sa'ar as head of the Jewish state's foreign ministry, reported Ynet.
The session of the parliament began immediately after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's decision to release the former head of the Ministry of Defense, Yoav Galant, came into force on the evening of November 7. The parliament approved cabinet changes in accordance with the government's decision and after the signing of a coalition agreement with the Saarland party New Hope - right-wing statists, Ynet reports.
The appointment of new ministers was supported by 58 people's representatives, the opposition did not participate in the vote. In accordance with the coalition agreement, another deputy from the New Hope party - Zeev Elkin was confirmed as a minister in the Ministry of Finance, responsible for the reconstruction of areas in the northern and southern parts of Israel, the portal reports.
On Tuesday evening, the Israeli Prime Minister announced the decision to relieve Galant from the post of Minister of Defense and appoint in his place Foreign Minister Israel Katz. At the same time, Netanyahu invited the minister without portfolio Gideon Saar to head the foreign policy department. Gallant's resignation took effect on the evening of November 7, 48 hours after the minister was notified of the prime minister's decision.
