At least 188 journalists have been killed in the ongoing fighting in the Gaza Strip, the Lebanese television channel Al Mayadeen reported, citing the government of the Palestinian enclave.

The Qatari television channel Al Jazeera indicated that many of the media workers were killed along with all their family members.

Israel rejected the warning of a group of world food security experts about famine in the northern parts of Gaza, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

"Unfortunately, researchers continue to rely on partial and superficial sources that have vested interests," the military said in a statement.

The Independent Famine Assessment Committee (FRC) said yesterday in a rare warning that there is a high probability of imminent famine in parts of northern Gaza, requiring immediate action by the warring parties to relieve the catastrophic situation.

Israel said it had increased its aid efforts, including opening an additional crossing point on Friday.

Since the start of the war in October 2023, 39,000 trucks carrying more than 840,000 tons of food have entered Gaza, Israel said, and meetings are being held daily with the United Nations, which has 700 aid trucks waiting to be distribution.

While some critics have condemned the starvation tactic in northern Gaza, the US has set a deadline within days to improve the humanitarian situation or Israel could face potential restrictions on military cooperation, Reuters notes.
