Venezuelan's General Prosecutor's Office released 225 people arrested during of the anti-government protests that swept the country after the disputed presidential elections in July, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.

"In the period between… between Friday (November 15) and Saturday (November 16) 225 remand orders were reviewed and implemented for individuals prosecuted for acts of violence following the July 28 election," Attorney General Tarek Saab said in a statement released tonight.

Last week, he announced that he would review the detention of at least 225 people detained during the summer protests, in which 28 people were killed and around 200 were injured.

The local human rights organization "Foro Penal" (Foro Penal) announced yesterday that it had confirmed the release of 107 political prisoners. According to the calculations of the "Foro Penal" since the July 28 presidential election that saw President Nicolás Maduro re-elected, police have arrested at least 1,800 people. Maduro has been at the head of Venezuela since 2013, and in January he will officially start his sixth consecutive term.

Alfredo Romero, head of the "Foro Penal", said that activists from the human rights organization observed the procedure for the release of prisoners in four prisons. Romero also posted a video showing released prisoners walking down a highway with people around them cheering them on.

The election results in the summer sparked a wave of anti-government protests, and opposition representatives, human rights organizations and trade unions accused Maduro's government of repression.
