US President-elect Donald Trump confirmed that after the inauguration in office intends to impose a state of emergency and use the military to resolve the illegal immigration situation.
„True,” Trump responded to a post by one of the users of the social network Truth Social, which stated that the president-elect would use the military and declare a state of emergency to implement a program to deport illegal migrants.
Previously, Trump has repeatedly stated in public speeches that after taking office he intends to conduct the largest operation to deport illegal immigrants in American history. The migration crisis has become one of the key issues in the US election campaign. Republicans actually blame Democrats for the sharp escalation of the problem.
Meanwhile, Trump has nominated former House of Representatives member Sean Duffy as transportation secretary, Reuters and AFP reported.
The 53-year-old Duffy represented the northern state of Wisconsin in the lower house of Congress. The father of nine is the host of Fox News, which supports Trump.
"During his tenure in Congress, Sean was a respected Republican voice advocating for fiscal responsibility and economic growth," Trump said, quoted by AFP.
Reuters notes that if confirmed by the Senate, Duffy would be in charge of aviation, auto, rail, transit and other transportation policies in a department with an annual budget of about $110 billion.
