US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken wrote on the social network X that the Venezuelan people have voted decisively in the election for Edmundo Gonzalez, who is now the “elected President of Venezuela”, adding that democracy requires respect for the will of the voters.
What the senior American official wrote immediately became the object of ridicule from the authorities in Venezuela.
„People say you shouldn't go back to where you once became a laughing stock, but Blinken, a staunch enemy of Venezuela, is determined to do it again, now with Guaido, who is backed by fascists and terrorists, subject to the ragtag policies of the United States”, Gill wrote on his Telegram channel.
Gill advised Blinken "in his last days in office to reflect on the failures and liberation from imperial and colonial complexes after the failed attempts to overturn Venezuelan democracy.
Presidential elections in Venezuela were held on July 28, with Maduro declared the winner by the National Electoral Council. The next day, protests broke out across the country against the results of these elections; there were violent clashes in Caracas and other cities, as a result of which more than two thousand people were detained.
Washington called on the world community to recognize opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez as the winner.
