Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that NATO did not deny support to Kiev during the process of implementing the Minsk agreements.

„Then I bet everything on us moving forward based on the Minsk agreements,” she said on TV channel ZDF, when asked why the EU had not provided military aid to Kiev much earlier. “But at the same time in NATO, when it came to supporting Ukraine - there were large-scale plans for this - we never refuse. This means that we had a kind of division of labor in the alliance,”, says Merkel.

„I ask you once again to imagine what the situation was like in Ukraine in 2014. And then I, with the President of France Hollande, concentrated on finding diplomatic solutions,”, she said. "Unfortunately, this did not achieve the desired success," Merkel said. According to her "fatal role" there was a coronavirus pandemic as leaders could not meet more often.

In February 2015 with the mediation of the former leaders of Germany and France, Angela Merkel and Francois Hollande, a set of measures was signed to implement the Minsk agreements. Its main provisions were related to the solution of security problems, primarily the ceasefire in Donbas.
