The British Foreign Office called on Iran and Russia to act in accordance with international humanitarian law after the latest airstrikes in Syria, reported PA Media and DPA, quoted by BTA.
In a speech in the House of Commons, the Minister of State (Parliamentary Under-Secretary at the Foreign Office - note ed.) Haymish Falconer called on "all entities involved" not to attack the civilian population in Syria and added that the government is closely monitoring the situation there with a view to the emergence of possible terrorist threats as a result of recent events.
"I directly call on all parties involved, including Iran and Russia, to act in accordance with international humanitarian law and not to attack civilians or civilian infrastructure, including health facilities. Aid organizations must be given full access on the ground," Falconer said.
On Saturday, Russia for the first time since 2016. carried out airstrikes on targets in Aleppo, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a non-governmental organization, said after rebels launched an offensive against the Syrian government army last week.
"We don't know if the HTSH group ("Hayat Tahrir al-Sham") will be able to advance even beforeò to the south, to the city of Hama, which is located about 100 km south of Aleppo. "What we do know is that these events are the biggest upheaval on the Syrian front since 2020," Falconer said.
The state minister added that "Russian bombing of Idlib province, the main base of the HTS, has intensified, and there are reports of (fighters of) pro-Iranian groups moving to Syria in support of (Syrian President Bashar) Assad's regime" .
According to Falconer, events are developing with great dynamics, but it is not clear what direction they will take.
UN Secretary General António Guterres also expressed concern about the events in Syria, who called for an immediate ceasefire, France Press reported.
"All countries must do everything possible to protect the lives and health of civilians and civil infrastructure and provide escape corridors for civilians who want to leave the areas of hostilities," said the spokesman for the Secretary General Stephane Dujarric . "Syrians have been suffering from this conflict for 14 years now. They deserve a political horizon that will provide them with a peaceful future, not more bloodshed."
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported that the fighting in Syria has forced about 50,000 people to flee their homes in just a few days.
"The situation with displaced persons remains highly dynamic. As of November 30, their number is over 48,500 at 14,000" to 28, indicated on the social network "Ex" Tom Fletcher, Head of Office.
He specified that those displaced as a result of the fighting are from the governorates (provinces) of Aleppo and Idlib and that more than half of them are children.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi announced that the foreign ministers of the countries of the so-called Astana Process (Russia, Iran and Turkey) will probably meet to discuss the events in Syria, Reuters reported.
This, according to the number one diplomat of the Islamic Republic, will take place on the sidelines of the two-day Doha Forum, which will take place in the Qatari capital on December 7-8.
