President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said he is grateful to the newly elected US President Donald Trump because of his strong determination to stop the war, reported France Press, quoted by BTA.

Trump and Zelensky had a trilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, where the situation in Ukraine was discussed. The meeting took place in Paris on Saturday.

"The most important thing is to work together to end this war - that is our absolute priority. During the meeting in Paris, this is exactly what we focused on," Zelensky said in Aix.

"I once again express my gratitude to President Macron for organizing this meeting, as well as my deep appreciation to President Trump for his firm determination to bring a just end to this war,” added the Ukrainian leader.

Trump has long claimed that once he takes office he will end the nearly three-year conflict in 24 hours, causing concern in Ukraine, which fears it will be forced to make major territorial concessions to Russia in exchange for peace .

On Sunday, the newly elected president called for an “immediate ceasefire”, writing on his social platform "Trut Social" that Zelensky is ready to “reach an agreement and end this madness”.

Zelensky, in his statement in Aix, also rejected calls to lower the conscription age. According to media reports, US officials are asking Ukraine to lower the conscription age so that 18-year-olds can also be conscripted into the army.

"We need to focus on equipping existing brigades and training personnel to use this equipment. We should not compensate for the lack of equipment and training with the youth of the military”, said the Ukrainian leader.
