According to 77% of Hungarians, newly elected US President Donald Trump has a good chance of ending the war in Ukraine next year, according to the results of a survey published today by the think tank “Sázadveg“ („End of the Century“) and quoted by the Hungarian news agency MTI.
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán met in July with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese leader Xi Jinping, and Trump, then the Republican Party's presidential candidate, “to explore the positions of the warring parties and promote peace“, the think tank said in a survey of 1,000 people.
„The Peace Mission“ was sharply criticized by the elite in Brussels, added „Sázadveg“.
„The survey shows that, unlike the leadership in Brussels, Hungarian society supports Orbán's efforts to end the war“, the think tank reported.
68% of respondents agree that Orbán promotes ending the war, „Sázadveg“ reported. „Thanks to Hungary's position in support of peace, 74% of respondents are against the decision of the governments of the United States and certain European Union member states to provide long-range missiles to Ukraine“, the organization added.
In addition, 77% of Hungarians believe that there is a real chance that Trump will succeed in ending the conflict in 2025. The survey shows that 51% of respondents have a positive opinion of Trump.
