The US has announced new sanctions against legal entities, ships and individuals associated with the transportation of Iranian oil or involved in supporting the Houthis in Yemen, BTA reports.
The sanctions are aimed at stopping the financing of terrorist and destabilizing actions emanating from Iran.
Sanctions against the transportation of Iranian oil
The US State Department has imposed sanctions on four entities that transported Iranian oil. In addition, six ships associated with these activities were identified. Meanwhile, the US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on four entities and three vessels operating in Iran's oil and petrochemical sectors.
Goal of sanctions - stopping malign activity
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said the aim of the sanctions was to stop Iran's funding of "malign activities". He stressed that Washington would continue to use all means at its disposal to hold Iran accountable for its support of terrorism, attacks on US allies and destabilising activities around the world.
Sanctions against individuals linked to the Houthis in Yemen
In addition, sanctions were imposed on 12 individuals and entities, including the head of the Yemeni central bank in Sanaa. The US claims that these individuals are linked to the Houthis and have been involved in arms trafficking, money laundering and the transportation of illicit Iranian oil.
