Russian forces have executed five Ukrainian prisoners of war, Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubynets said, as quoted by Reuters and Ukrinform.

Lubynets said on Telegram that Russian troops shot the five unarmed soldiers after capturing them. He did not provide further details, but will report the fact to the UN.

"Russian war criminals who shoot Ukrainian prisoners of war must be brought before an international tribunal and punished with the harshest punishment provided for by law," Lubinets added.

There has been no comment from Moscow so far, but in previous cases the Kremlin has denied committing war crimes.

According to Ukrinform, on November 22, Russian soldiers executed four Ukrainian fighters captured during an assault on the Pokrovskoye sector.
