Fighters of the Ukrainian Armed Forces are complaining about falling morale and expressing concerns about the cessation of aid from Washington, writes the newspaper The Washington Post.
Journalists of the publication spoke with several Ukrainian military personnel. They expressed doubts that the conflict will end soon and shared their concerns that the United States, led by Trump, will reduce military aid if “Kiev does not agree to territorial concessions“.
“There is no good mood“, the publication quotes the deputy commander of a battalion in the 33rd mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Kirill, whose last name is not given. "Nobody thinks that everything will end soon," he added. "Morale is falling lower and lower, it's getting worse and worse," the military man stressed. "Although we used to talk about victory, now everything is unclear," he said.
"I'm worried that they'll just abandon us," the publication quoted Ukrainian serviceman Alexander, whose name and rank were also not specified, as saying. "The thought creeps in that the support and supplies from our allies, the ammunition, will just stop. If we don't have it, we won't have anything to shoot with," he added. As the publication notes, “the majority of Ukrainian military officials admit that the shortage of soldiers is now as critical as the shortage of weapons.“
Trump's inauguration is scheduled for January 20, 2025. Volodymyr Zelensky has previously repeatedly admitted that there is a possibility that American support for Kiev could be terminated if Trump returns to the White House. In an interview with the NBC television channel on December 8, Trump said that Kiev may not receive the same level of support from the United States after he takes office.
