The DPRK has a new prime minister. This was announced during the enlarged plenum of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.
The current head of the cabinet, Kim Deok-hoon, has been appointed head of a department in the Central Committee of the party and becomes its secretary.
“Park Tae-sung has been appointed prime minister“, the state news agency said in a statement. Kwon Son-hwan became Minister of Natural Resources Development, and Kim Yong-sik headed the Ministry of Trade.
Foreign Minister Choi Song-hee was elected a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the party.
An expanded plenary session of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea was held from December 23 to 27. It summarized the results of the policy for 2024 and set the guidelines for work for the next year. Kim Jong-un chaired the meeting and delivered a "key closing speech" on item one of the agenda - "On summarizing the implementation of the party-state-political tasks for 2024 and the guidelines for the struggle for 2025"
The meeting announced "the strongest possible strategy" to respond to the United States, the North Korean news agency KCNA reported, quoted by Reuters and BTA.
The statement did not provide details about the content of the strategy, but it was stated at the meeting that the "tripartite alliance" of South Korea, the United States and Japan has developed into a “nuclear military bloc“, and South Korea has become “the anti-communist outpost of the United States“.
“Reality clearly dictates which direction we should move in and what and how to do“, said the statement released by the KCNA.
The meeting also decided to promote relations with “friendly“ countries.
