About 20 drones spotted over Danish port - 1

Danish police said today they are investigating reports of about 20 drones spotted over the port in the city of Køge, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.

Local police said their officers saw four large unmanned aerial vehicles in the port area last night. The law enforcement agencies responded to a report from a citizen who claimed to have seen about 20 drones, which later disappeared at high speed into Køge Bay.

Police said they were trying to establish the total number of drones, as well as their owner. At the time of their appearance, no permission had been issued for drone flights in the area.

Police are investigating other similar drone incidents amid security concerns over Russian hybrid attacks detected in some European countries, the AP notes.

Several undersea cables have also been cut in recent months, including the "Estlink 2" interconnector connecting Finland and Estonia, with investigators working on the version of sabotage, DPA recalls.

European officials believe that the damage may have been caused by the so-called. "shadow fleet" that Russia uses to export oil in violation of international sanctions.

Meanwhile, NATO announced that it was increasing its military presence in the Baltic Sea as a measure to deter Russia.

Since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, drones of unknown origin have been repeatedly spotted over power plants and airports in the Scandinavian Peninsula, and authorities have never been able to clarify who sent them.

In September, several drones temporarily suspended operations at Stockholm"s Arlanda International Airport overnight.
