The United States is expected to provide Ukraine with an additional $500 million military aid package, BTA reports.
The weapons will be quickly withdrawn from existing stocks at a time when the administration of President Joe Biden seeks to strengthen Kiev's negotiating position before the inauguration of the newly elected US President Donald Trump, two US officials reported, quoted by the Associated Press.
The announcement of the aid is expected during the latest trip of US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who will meet with the Ukraine Defense Contact Group. This is a group of about 50 partner countries, which Austin formed after the beginning of the Russian invasion in February 2022. to coordinate military support for Kiev.
Tomorrow's meeting will be the 25th and potentially final gathering of the US-led group, with member states waiting to hear whether the initiative will be continued under the Trump administration.
“Our focus will be on maintaining momentum, achieving results and sending a clear message: The international community is committed to supporting Ukraine,“ Austin told reporters traveling with him.
