The US capital Washington is stepping up security measures in view of the upcoming inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump, Agence France-Presse reported, BTA reported.
Trump's inauguration will be the third event in Washington with special security significance after the confirmation of the results of the presidential election and the funeral of former US President Jimmy Carter.
Washington has experience with events that attract great media attention, but it has rarely happened that such important events have been held one after the other in such a short period of time.
Few people are expected to attend Trump's inauguration than at his first inauguration ceremony eight years ago, when authorities were preparing for up to a million attendees.
The White House and The Capitol, however, is already barricaded.
About 25,000 police and military personnel will be deployed to guard the capital, the Secret Service, the agency tasked with protecting politicians, said.
The US presidential election campaign last year was marked by violence. There was an attempt to assassinate Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania in July. Two months later, a second attempt was made to assassinate him at a golf course in Florida. The Secret Service, the agency responsible for protecting presidents, has come under heavy criticism for both incidents.
