The US Senate unanimously confirmed Republican Senator Marco Rubio as US Secretary of State, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

Rubio is known for his hard line on China and his support for Israel.

Ninety-nine senators voted "for" Marco Rubio's candidacy and not one "against".

Rubio is Donald Trump's first cabinet member nomination to be approved by the Senate. This happened just hours after Trump took office for a second term as president of the United States.

More votes on Trump's nominations are expected this week, Reuters notes.

Rubio opposes the United States' further dependence on China and believes that American policy should be focused on ending the war in Ukraine.

He is the first Hispanic Secretary of State, he is the son of Cuban immigrants.

US President Donald Trump has ordered the US to withdraw from the World Health Organization, DPA reported.

Trump signed an executive order to this effect at the White House just hours after taking office.

"The World Health Organization is robbing us. "Everyone is robbing the United States, that's the way it is, but that's not going to happen anymore," the president told reporters.

According to the WHO, the United States is the organization's largest donor and partner.

The United States provided $1.284 billion in 2022 and 2023, the WHO said.

In 2020, Trump withdrew the United States from the WHO, accusing the organization of failing to handle the coronavirus pandemic and being a puppet of China. On his first day as president in 2021, Joe Biden returned the United States to the WHO.

US President Donald Trump signed an executive order postponing the implementation of the ban on the TikTok app in the United States for 75 days, Reuters reported.

The executive order contains instructions for the attorney general not to implement the ban so that "my administration can determine appropriate action with respect to TikTok".

In addition, with his executive order, Trump orders the Department of Justice to send letters to companies such as "Apple" and "Google" that work with TikTok. The letters should clarify that they will not be held liable for using TikTok during the specified period.

When asked what he was achieving with the TikTok order, the president replied that it "simply gave me the right to sell it or shut it down."

Trump explained that he was about to make a decision on this issue.

The head of state pardoned 1,500 people charged in connection with the January 6, 2021, Capitol storming, Reuters reported.

"We expect them to come out tonight. We expect it," Trump said.

The president also said that the sentences of six defendants would be reduced.

Reuters notes that the pardon of these defendants is the fulfillment of one of his campaign promises, namely to help his supporters who were charged and imprisoned in connection with the storming of the Capitol, which was intended to prevent Joe Biden from confirming his victory in the 2020 presidential election.

Some prisoners in federal prisons serving sentences in connection with the events of January 6 may be released within the same day, a spokesman for the Department of Prisons said.

According to Trump, many of the nearly 1,600 people charged in connection with the storming have been treated unfairly from the justice system. He called them "hostages".

"We will release our great hostages, who, by and large, have done nothing wrong", Donald Trump said at his inauguration parade at the "Capital One Arena" in Washington.

The new president signed some of his first executive orders on stage at the "Capital One Arena" in Washington, Reuters and the Associated Press reported.

With his first executive orders, Trump reversed dozens of measures taken by the Joe Biden administration, withdrew the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement, imposed a temporary ban on the adoption of new regulations by federal officials, and imposed a temporary ban on hiring people in federal structures until the new government establishes full control over power. The president also ordered federal officials to return to work in person if they had previously worked remotely.

He also signed a memorandum, which the AP said was largely symbolic, instructing all federal agencies to take action to combat inflation.

The president also signed a document to guarantee freedom of speech in the United States and to end "federal censorship".

The United States must control Greenland to ensure international security, US President Donald Trump said, quoted by Reuters.

He has expressed interest in annexing Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory, to the United States since he was re-elected president in November last year.

Donald Trump has not ruled out using military or economic force to convince Denmark to cede Greenland.

Greenlandic Prime Minister Mute Egede, who supports Greenlandic independence, said the island is not for sale and that its people will decide their own future.

US President Donald Trump's newly created cryptocurrency rose today to more than $10 billion in market capitalization, while he was taking office for his second term, Reuters reported.

Trump's "mime coin," also known as $TRUMP, launched on Friday, rose from less than $10 on Saturday morning to $74.59 before suffering a partial decline today.

Trump launched the digital token with branding that includes an image from the July assassination attempt.

On Sunday, Melania Trump launched her own coin, $MELANIA. Its market capitalization is well over $1 billion.

Syria's de facto leader Ahmed al-Sharaa congratulated US President Donald Trump on his inauguration, Reuters reported.

Al-Sharaa said he hoped for improved relations between the United States and Syria.

"We are confident that he is the leader who will bring peace to the Middle East and restore stability to the region," the Syrian leader said.

The United States, Britain and the European Union have imposed heavy sanctions on Syria after ousted President Bashar al-Assad responded with a crackdown on protests in 2011 that led to civil war.

In early January, Washington announced an exemption from sanctions for transactions with Syrian government institutions for a period of six months, in an attempt to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Syria.

Syria welcomed the move but called for a complete lifting of sanctions.
