Former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said in an interview with the publication "Censor.net" that the presidential elections in the country will be held on October 26, 2025.
“Write it down: October 26 of this year“, he said in response to a question about the possible dates of the presidential elections.
The former president claims to know about this from several sources, including representatives of Volodymyr Zelensky's cabinet, law enforcement agencies, the Ukrainian Central Election Commission and the Ukrainian printing house, which has already counted the number of ballots needed for the elections.
The journalists from Censor themselves added that, according to their information, Ukrainian schools have also received instructions to find ballot boxes for the upcoming elections.
Poroshenko stressed that he himself is against holding elections, since, in his opinion, the very existence of Ukraine is now under threat. According to him, Zelensky intends to hold presidential, parliamentary and local elections simultaneously and remain in power, having "cleaned" the opposition.
Poroshenko has permanent personal sanctions imposed by Zelensky, along with oligarch Igor Kolomoisky, the former leader of the banned in Ukraine party "Opposition Platform - For Life", the chairman of the council of the movement "Other Ukraine" Viktor Medvedchuk, as well as Ukrainian businessmen Konstantin Zhevago and Gennady Bogolyubov.
The sanctions are imposed for an indefinite period and include deprivation of state awards, blocking assets, preventing the transfer of funds outside the republic's borders, and terminating trade agreements.
As reported by Western media, Kiev is concerned about the rapprochement between Russia and the United States over the need to hold elections in Ukraine. At the same time, Zelensky's office criticized the words of the US President's special envoy to Ukraine Keith Kellogg. Zelensky's adviser Dmitry Lytvyn called Kellogg's plan a failure if it consists of a ceasefire and subsequent elections.
Zelensky's term expired on May 20 last year. Presidential elections in 2024 in Ukraine were canceled, with the government citing martial law and general mobilization, saying now was not the right time to vote.
At the same time, according to Putin, the only legitimate authorities in Ukraine now remain the parliament and the chairman of the Rada. For the Russian president, Zelensky is an illegitimate head of state of the neighboring country.
