North Korean leader Kim Jong-un visited the grave of his father Kim Jong-il on the occasion of his birth anniversary, Reuters reported, citing the North Korean state news agency KCNA, quoted by BTA.

During the visit, Kim Jong-un vowed to continue the "holy struggle" for the prosperity and security of North Korea.

The DPRK marks Kim Jong-il's birthday, known as "Shining Star Day," on February 16. one of the country's most important holidays.

The North Korean leader visited the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun in Pyongyang, where the embalmed bodies of his father Kim Jong-il and grandfather Kim Il-sung are kept. It was his first visit there in four years.

He was accompanied by his sister Kim Yo-jong and senior aides.

“Kim Jong-un solemnly declared his intention to dedicate himself to the sacred struggle for the eternal prosperity of the country, the security of the people and their well-being,“ the KCNA reported.

The Kim dynasty has ruled North Korea since its establishment after World War II and remains at the center of the country's political and ideological system.
