Kellogg visited Kiev, where he met first with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga, and then with Zelensky. However, Kellogg made no statements afterwards, and his press conference after his talks with Zelensky was canceled.
According to the BBC, the American side requested the cancellation of the press conference.
After the meeting with Kellogg, Zelensky wrote on social media that Kiev was ready for a "strong, truly useful agreement" with the US on investment and security.
"Good conversation, many details. I am grateful to the United States for all the assistance provided and bipartisan support for Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. It is important for us and for the entire free world to feel American power. We discussed in detail the situation on the battlefield and how to return all our prisoners, as well as effective security guarantees," Zelensky said.
A day of intense international work. My meeting with General Kellogg was one that restores hope, and we need strong agreements with the U.S.—agreements that will truly work. I have instructed my team to work quickly and very sensibly.
