A 4.6-magnitude earthquake occurred in the northern part of Armenia, 6 km from the city of Spitak in the Lori region, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic reported.

According to the data, the earthquake was also felt in the Shirak and Tavush regions, there are no reports of casualties or damage yet.

The National Seismic Monitoring Center of Georgia later reported that the earthquake was also felt in the border villages of Georgia. According to it, the epicenter of the earthquake was 30 km from the border with the republic. The tremors were felt at the Gugut customs checkpoint, in the villages of Sakire, Kamishlo, Amamlo and Mamishlo. There were also no reports of casualties or damage on the Georgian side.

The Armenian Interior Ministry noted that a series of aftershocks after the earthquake were recorded near the city of Spitak and were also felt in the cities of Stepanavan and Vanadzor.

The city of Spitak and the surrounding areas, located in the north of Armenia, are considered a seismically dangerous zone. It was here in 1988 that a devastating earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8-7.2 occurred, which almost completely destroyed Spitak and destroyed other cities, including the second largest city in Armenia, Leninakan (now Gyumri).
