Trade union calls on port workers in Hamburg to voice their dissatisfaction over failed negotiations for better wages

Trade union "Fer.di" (Ver.di) has called on workers in the northern German port of Hamburg to strike today after ongoing negotiations in the wage dispute failed, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

Ver.di is in talks with the Central Union of German Port Operators association for better wages for around 6,000 workers at the country's biggest seaport, but the union said Thursday's second round of talks failed to produce results.

"The offer presented by the employers is completely inadequate," said the negotiator from "Fer.di" Maren Ulbrich. To step up the pressure, the union has called on dockers to stop work on Friday from 5.30am until late in the evening.

From "Fer.di" demand an increase in hourly pay by 3 euros from June 1, as well as a corresponding increase in shift allowances.
